Frequently Asked Questions And Testimonials
What is the required teacher/chaperone to student ratio?
Biosphere 2 requires a minimum of 1 responsible and attentive teacher or chaperone to every 10 students and a maximum of 1 teacher or chaperone to every 6 students. These ratios allow us to adhere to safety guidelines, and provide the highest quality learning experience for your students.
Are prices different for students and chaperones for the K-12 offerings?
Prices are the same for all participants - this includes students and chaperones.
What if we have more adults joining the program than the chaperone ratio allows?
We must ask that any adults exceeding the chaperone-to-student ratio pay a separate general admission fee and join the next available public tour.
What should my students bring to be prepared for a program at Biosphere 2?
Please make sure all of your students and chaperones are wearing closed-toe shoes appropriate for handling many stairs, wet areas, and uneven terrain. We highly suggest that each participant has a water bottle and a name tag. Hats can prevent unwelcome sun exposure and notebooks & pens are useful, as all scientists know!
Can we purchase lunch for our program at Biosphere 2?
Yes, but we need to know in advance. We have a couple of options when it comes to pre-ordering lunch for your group. Please ask the group bookings coordinator for more details.
What is the difference between a public tour and a behind the scenes expedition?
The Behind the Scenes Expeditions are led by Biosphere 2 educators that take students into areas of Biosphere 2 not open to the general public such as the lower level of the tropical rainforest and the beach. While on the BSE, students will be interacting with hands-on activities throughout the biomes that encourage creative thinking and innovative ideas. The Behind the Scenes Expedition takes about 150+ minutes. Public tours go inside of Biosphere 2 along the visitor pathway. The public tour takes around 75 minutes.
For Residential Programs:
How many chaperones do I need if my group is going to stay overnight at Biosphere 2?
One responsible and background-checked adult chaperone is required per casita.
How many students can I place per casita?
Casitas can hold anywhere from 4-9 people. Please contact our conference sales manager for more details about rooming.
Do I need to leave a deposit in order to secure the date for my overnight program?
A deposit is not currently required to secure a date but a signed letter of agreement is.
