Biosphere 2 is a site for many undergraduate research programs, including:
NSF-funded Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) program provides ten undergraduates an opportunity to conduct guided research in environmental and earth systems science. Students will be selected from across the country to participate in the summer residential program. Please see additional REU program details and application materials on the Biosphere 2 website. For 2017, the program runs from June 5 to August 11.
The Environmental Science Institute (ESI) at Biosphere 2 is a companion program to the REU program, but is not limited to citizens of the USA. The cost for the 10-week summer program is approximately $5,000. Please contact us about eligibility, application materials, and other requirements and pricing details. We are especially interested in utilizing this program to bring cohorts of international students to Biosphere 2 each year for mentored earth-science research experiences.
Upper-division undergraduate students may be interested in our partnership with the STAR Fellows program housed at Cal-Poly that supports summer residential research experiences at Biosphere 2 for aspiring and early career K-12 teachers, especially in STEM disciplines. Please apply directly through the STAR Fellows Program. The Star Fellows program runs June 12 through August 11, 2017.
Many other university research opportunities are available at Biosphere 2 for visiting students, UA Honors Interns, and more. Seek out appropriate research faculty doing work on areas of interest to you and begin a dialogue.
Please contact Biosphere 2 Director of Education and Outreach, Dr. Kevin Bonine, if you have questions about undergraduate research opportunities with Biosphere 2.
