Arid Lands Resource Sciences
A unique interdisciplinary PhD program designed to prepare students to examine the physical, ecological, economic, social and ethical factors that determine the long-term sustainable use of arid and semiarid lands. ALRS is one of the oldest graduate interdisciplinary programs at the University of Arizona in Tucson, USA. No program of comparable scope exists in the United States to comprehensively train students at the doctoral level in arid lands resources. The ALRS curriculum and required dissertation work provide incoming students holding a Masters degree or equivalent professional experience with a rigorous but flexible interdisciplinary education. Graduates are prepared for careers in private and public research, regulatory, or practice-oriented organizations, including academic, governmental and non-governmental institutions.
