Biosphere 2 Night Driving Tour
Due to COVID-19, we have temporarily suspended our daytime walking tours until further notice. For a limited time, you can now experience this ‘wonder of the world’ like never before! When you visit Biosphere 2 you can now drive through the property and learn more about its scientific research and amazing history in the comfort and safety of your own car. Tickets must be pre-purchased online. There will be a limited number of tickets sold per day. Once a limit is reached on a particular day, interested guests must select another day.
Vehicle size must be no larger than a full-size long bed truck.
The tour will take approximately 25 minutes.

Tour will be open Friday and Saturday between the hours of 6:00pm – 10:00pm for all dates.
Labor Day Weekend Hours: Friday Sept. 4th - Sunday Sept. 6th 6:00pm - 10:00pm.

When You Get Here
- You’ll pull up to our entrance gate and wait in line to be checked-in.
- A member of our team will meet you at your car window and answer any questions you may have. We are wearing masks and sanitizing our hands frequently for your protection!
- Do NOT get out of your vehicle at any time. If you leave your vehicle, you will be escorted off of the property immediately.
- Please do not ride in the bed of a pick-up truck, the hatchback on SUV’s must remain closed, motorcycles and bicycles will not be allowed on the property.
- Please keep moving in a timely fashion. If you notice that a lot of cars are piling behind you, please move to the next designated stop.
- Stops will be clearly marked along the road, please only stop at these designated locations.
Inclement Weather Policy
It is the policy of Biosphere 2 to remain open during most periods of inclement weather; however, where extraordinary circumstances warrant, due to weather or other unforeseen business interruption, the company reserves the right to cancel the event. Should this occur, your ticket will be valid for an alternate date.

Q. Do I need to pre-purchase tickets or can we buy tickets onsite?
A. Tickets for this experience must be pre-purchased online. We do not have the ability to sell tickets at the gate. Tickets are non-refundable and non-transferable.
Q. What happens in the event of bad weather? Are discounts available?
A. Discounts are not available for this special event.
Q. What can I expect to see on the tour?
A. If you schedule a visit before sunset you will see beautiful views of the Biosphere 2 facility and the Santa Catalina Mountains. Biosphere 2 is located in a natural desert environment and it is not uncommon to encounter native wildlife such as Whitetail Deer, Javelinas, and snakes. If you visit after sunset you will get a unique opportunity to see Biosphere 2 lit at night. A truly stunning sight.
Q. Will the Gift Shop be open?
A. No. Due to physical distancing guidelines, all buildings are closed. Visit our online store to purchase select Biosphere 2 merchandise.
Q. Once we complete the tour, can we drive through a second time?
A. Tickets are good for one drive around Biosphere 2. Guests may not return after exiting the tour without paying admission again.
Q. Are we allowed to park and walk around the grounds?
A. No. This is a driving tour experience. Everyone is required to stay in their vehicle at all times. Anyone who is not able to comply will be immediately escorted off the property.
Q. Are face coverings required?
A. Face coverings will be required for anyone in the vehicle who is interacting with a Biosphere 2 staff member.
Q. Do you drive through in your own vehicle?
A. Yes. Guests must drive the tour in their own vehicle. Biosphere 2 does not offer any guest transportation. Please remain one car length behind any vehicle that is directly in front of you. Passing is not permitted at any time.
Q. What is the maximum vehicle size?
A. Vehicle size must be no larger than a full-size long bed truck.
Q. Is there a maximum carload?
A. Yes, we ask for a max of 6 people per vehicle, all occupants must have a seat belt.
Q. How long is the driving tour?
A. The experience will last approximately 25 minutes.
Q. Since I am in my vehicle am I allowed to smoke?
A. No. The University is dedicated to providing a healthy environment for those who participate in University activities. In support of this goal, the University prohibits the use of products that contain tobacco or nicotine, which the Food and Drug Administration has identified as an addictive chemical. These products include cigarettes, cigars, pipes, electronic smoking devices (such as e-cigarettes), bidis, kreteks, hookahs, water pipes, and all forms of smokeless tobacco. Littering campus with remains of tobacco or smoking-related products also is prohibited.
Q. Can we drive in a convertible with the top down?
A. Yes, you may. For your safety while on Biosphere 2 property, doors must be in place and closed at all times. All persons must be seated in the vehicle if the top is down.
Q. Can we ride in the bed of a truck?
A. No. For your safety, please be sure to comply with seatbelt and child restraint laws.
Q. Can we drive the tour on a motorcycle?
A. No. Motorcycles are not permitted on the driving tour.
Q. Can we ride the tour on a bike?
A. No. This is a motorized vehicle experience.
Q. Can I bring my own food or drink?
A. Yes. You may bring your own food and drink to enjoy in your vehicle. No alcoholic beverages are permitted. Trash cans will not be available.
Q. Will there be food for sale?
A. No. The Biosphere 2 Café is closed. There are many dining options located in the town of Oracle located just north of Biosphere 2 on Highway 77.
Q. Are pets allowed?
A. No. The only animals allowed to accompany visitors are trained and vaccinated service animals. Service animals (such as dogs) are trained to perform tasks for the benefit of individuals with physical or mental disabilities. This includes, but not limited to, guiding individuals who are blind, alerting those who are deaf, protecting individuals prone to seizures and various other tasks directly related to a disability. Pets and other animals whose sole function is to provide comfort, companionship or emotional support do not qualify as service animals under the Americans With Disabilities Act and Arizona state law.
Q. Are restrooms being made available to guests?
A. No. Due to traffic and physical distancing guidelines, restrooms will not be readily available. Please notify a staff member in the event of an emergency.
Q. What if I have a first aid emergency?
A. Biosphere 2 staff members will be available to assist guests with first aid. Please notify the nearest staff member if you are having an emergency.
