The Biosphere 2 Experience is a self-paced app guided tour that will lead you through the rich history and current research initiatives of this remarkable facility. The Biosphere 2 app should be downloaded prior to arrival in order to get the most out of your visit. The Biosphere 2 Experience will take place both indoors and outdoors. Visitors should be prepared for the following physical requirements:
- This is a 75-minute walking tour, where you explore Biosphere 2 using your own smartphone and headphones.
- This is an indoor AND outdoor tour
- Approximately 100 stairs, both up and down
- 1-mile route to walk
- Varying weather conditions (Biosphere 2 Biomes are maintained as tropical environments, temperature and humidity inside the facility can reach the high 90’s)

Add a Guided Lung Tour:
Enhance your visit with a behind-the-scenes tour of the technology that helps run our facility. In this 30-minute guided tour you'll experience one of the "lungs" that regulated the air pressure inside Biosphere 2's main glass enclosure.
There is no elevator access to the underground areas included in this tour. Guests unable to independently use stairs that lead underground without the use of cane, crutches, walking stick, walker, or wheelchair, will not be permitted on this tour.
Please arrive 30 minutes before the tour start time to allow for check-in. Tours start promptly on time and no refunds will be given for late arrivals.
There will be a limited number of tickets sold per hour and day. Once a limit is reached, interested guests must select another time and/or day.

For those fascinated by the human habitation era of Biosphere 2, this tour will allow you to access rarely seen areas of Biosphere 2, including the Biospherian Apartment and Library Tower. Enjoy panoramic views of the Biosphere 2 grounds and surrounding area as you visit the tallest point inside Biosphere 2.

Add a Guided Birding Nature Walk:
Join our team of nature enthusiasts for a half-mile guided walk through the Biosphere 2 grounds, where you’ll have the opportunity to observe both native and migratory bird species. While birds will be our primary focus, we’ll also explore the unique geology of the Santa Catalina foothills and identify native plants that provide food and shelter for local wildlife.
The route features a relaxed 45-minute walk with gentle elevation changes and some uneven terrain. Along the way, we’ll pause at scenic overlooks and key vantage points to spot birds and other desert wildlife. Whether you’re an experienced birder or a curious beginner, this walk offers a hands-on way to deepen your understanding of the Sonoran Desert’s flora, fauna, and natural history, and to experience the high-desert landscape that surrounds Biosphere 2.
We have a limited number of binoculars available to borrow; you are also welcome to bring your own.
